MS AND VITAMIN D
Studies on MS and vitamin D treatment are promising...but further research is needed.
In 2009, a small study of 49 people conducted by the University of Toronto found that multiple sclerosis (MS) patients in a high dose vitamin D program were less likely to suffer a relapse than those taking a lower dose of the vitamin. Sixteen percent of the participants taking 14,000 IUs of vitamin D3 for a year suffered relapses compared to 40% of those who took an average of 1,000 IUs. Also, people taking high-dose vitamin D suffered 41% fewer relapses than the year before the study began, compared with 17% of those taking typical doses. These findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology.
